How did they do it?
Congratulations to the Blackhawks for winning the Stanley Cup 2013! What a great series and defeat over the Boston Bruins! The Blackhawks won the series 4-2.
As I look out my office window at the huge crowds that gathered at the United Center, I can't help but think…WOW the city is really involved. SO involved that they decided to hold a parade to celebrate their victory.
The Chicago Blackhawks parade celebrates the Stanley Cup win, which starts at 10:30 a.m.(United Center) today, rally at 11 a.m. (Grant Park).
"The City of Chicago is so proud of our Blackhawks, and we are looking forward to celebrating their championship with the best fans in the world," Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement. "We also ask fans to enjoy the celebration responsibly by respecting the city and each other."
I love my city and all of our sports teams, and I am happy for the team with such a tremendous win. But…I cant help but wonder how is it that the city can come together for a sports team, but seem to fall short on the current condition of our city??? If I ever thought that our city was incapable of coming together in unity, I was surely wrong. The city of Chicago is capable of coming together when and for what they feel like. Thousands of fans have taken off work and gathered together in harmony for this celebration. Really?!
Our city has one of the highest crime rates and people are being shot and killed daily. Chicago has been reported to be one of the most segregated cities (huff post) and right here and right now in our city, floods of people have come together on one accord. This is really mind boggling as our city is in dire need of a rescue. How did they do it? Lives and souls need to be saved, children to be feed, teens to be loved, families to be supported, students to be education, crime stropped, residents protected and so much more. The city has a lot of work to do and if only they would apply today's passion, power and unison, I am sure we would make a huge different and impact. Enjoy this ride because shortly….the city of Chicago will resume to being on their own agenda and own personal gain.
Watch the Blackhawks Parade Live and see for yourself as the city comes together and you be the judge.
